    1. Congrats on your first pattern-read project! I learned to crochet using written patterns and have difficulty following a chart.

  4. Do you need to chain three on each round so it is tall enough to make the hdc? I did it that way and it did not count towards the stitch count and looks good. Thanks!

    1. I just chain one before turning and do not count it as a stitch. I find that one chain is tall enough to blend in with hdc. I may give your method a try!

  5. When you say "foundation double crochet 27' then slip stitch", is this chain slip stitch then dc27 in the circle? Sorry didn't understand? Thanks

  6. The foundation double crochet creates a sc base and double crochet all at the same time, there's no need to start with a chain row! Instead of foundation dc you may begin with a chain of 27, join in a round and then dc in each of the 27 chains. Just be sure you have 27 dc when you finish this row. Here's a link to foundation dc if you're curious...

  7. Is it faster to do the dc foundation instead of chaining?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It not really faster but i find it gives me a stretchier edge. Its really up to your preference, either method will work!

    1. Good catch! The rows were just numbered incorrectly, none of the instructions were actually missing. I've fixed the error, thanks for letting me know.

  11. Love your pattern. Did the first one with Wool-Ease Tonal by Lion brand and loved it. I'm attempting the next one with Caron Cakes. Any tips? It doesn't seem to be working up as big as the fist one. Should I keep on going because it appears to be stretchy?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I would keep going since it is stretchy and Caron Cakes is also a worsted weight yarn. Its amazing how some worsted weight yarns are skinnier than others! I would add an extra row if needed to be sure the hat measures 7" from the beginning to the end.

  13. Thanks for posting this! The pattern looks awesome. How many rows make up the band? I'm making one in two colors but I'm not sure when to switch.

  14. What is your opinion on starting the pattern with a hair tie... as in doing the 27 foundation stitches around a hair tie?? Or is the hat stretchy enough at the top and durable enough that it won't stretch out?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I haven't tried using a hair tie. You could crochet 27 hdc or dc stitches into the hair tie instead of making the foundation row and continue from there. If you try it please let us know how you liked it!

  21. How could you turn this into a regular hat without the Bun hole? Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  22. Its easy to make this a regular hat...
Row 1: Start with magic ring, 9 dc OR hdc in ring, sl to join, ch 1 OR 2 (9 stiches)
Row 2: 2 dc OR hdc in each st, sl to join, ch 1 OR 2 (18 stitches)
Row 3: 2 dc OR hdc in 1st st, dc OR hdc in next st, repeat around, sl to join, ch 1 OR 2 (27 stitches)
Continue with the pattern as written beginning with round 2.

  24. Can't wait to try your pattern, thank you for it! (I've currently got my hooks full of pink pussyhats!!) I'd like the back opening to be a bit "slouchier," not quite as small/tight a circle. Any suggestions for how I would make that adjustment? I see you mention that the dc foundation gives you a stretchier edge, so I would def want to do that... but should I start w/ maybe 50 and increase more gradually up to 66? It's not that I'd want it shorter, just not to pull in so tight. TIA!!

    1. Oops, I meant the foundation hdc!

    2. You could try starting with 36 fhdc them follow the pattern beginning with round two. You might need to add an extra (non increasing) row for length before you get to the sc row.
